About
I'm Margaret Whitehair, a licensed counselor and board-certified art therapist in Austin. Here's a little about how I see this work, and you.
Carrying the weight of everyday life can quietly wear you down. So many of us get by on a bare minimum of reserves, even when it looks from the outside like we have it all together.
Much of the energy that should be ours stays locked in the past, in old hurts and in the stories we tell about who we are. Those stories matter, and they can be rewritten to reflect the strength you've already grown into. My work is helping you free that energy, so you can be more present and live a fuller, more joyful life.
I think of the depths of our work as snorkeling and scuba diving. Snorkeling stays near the surface, short-term and solution-focused. Scuba diving goes deeper, into history, roots, family, and the experiences that shaped you. We can do either, or both, depending on what you need and when.
Psychodynamic and family-systems thinking, attachment theory, and interpersonal neurobiology all inform my work, alongside my own life as an artist, musician, and yoga practitioner. My approach is trauma-informed, person-centered, and always working to be culturally responsive. And I believe creativity is a tool we all carry.
